Select a background color and/or a background image, and the page margins for your web pages.
Option | Meaning |
---|---|
Color Code | Specify a web page background color. This is an HTML color code. Click to more easily select a color code. Note that if you specify a background image, then your background color might not be visible. |
Image | You may choose a background image. Specify the name of an image file here, including a relative folder path. Leave this field empty if you do not want a background image. |
Keep background fixed when scrolling web page | Your background image can remain fixed or it can scroll when you scroll the web page up or down. Place a check here to keep it from scrolling. |
Margins | Specify the left and right, and top and bottom margins for your web pages. These values are expressed in pixels. If you use a background image that has a left-side border, you can specify a wider left margin to accommodate this border. |
These options control the alignment of labels on your family group sheets. Labels are the words "Born:," "Married:," and "Died:" and so on.

Align fields for group sheet labels |
Place a check here to align the labels on your group sheets. When labels are aligned, the name and date fields all start in the same column. For no alignment, clear the check next to this option and no extra spacing will appear. |
If you enable alignment, select the maximum width for the label fields and whether they are left- or right-justified.
Option | Meaning |
---|---|
Use width of longest label |
GED-GEN automatically calculates the longest label and adds the appropriate space to shorter labels. This takes into account the length of a label, even if you change its text on the Labels tab. If you are using a proportional font, you may need to select the "Use this width" option instead. Note
The lengths of all "inline" facts are included in the calculation of a longest label. These are facts marked "include within family page" on the Facts tab. If excessive space is shown, consider shortening the labels of those facts that are included inline. Do this on the Labels tab. For example if "Christening (Adult)" is included inline, this will result in extra spacing for all labels. You could change the label to "Christened" for more reasonable spacing. |
Use this width | Specify the number of character positions within which each label will
appear. If you specify a width shorter than a given label, that label is
displayed without regard to alignment. If you specify a width longer than any
label, all labels are displayed with the extra space. If you selected a proportional font by clearing the check next to Use non-proportional font on the Attributes tab, this value is interpreted using the average width of a character in the font. Depending upon the font used and the label text, this may not be a good approximation for the longest label. In that case you should specify an explicit width here, based on trial and error. |
Right-justify labels | Place a check here to display labels right-justified within the space allotted to all labels. Otherwise labels will be left-justified. |
Align fields for place of birth, marriage & death |
This option is available only if "Align fields for group sheet labels" above is enabled. Place a check here if you want the places of birth, marriage and death to be aligned one under the other. This may make your family pages appear more orderly. For example: Born: 04 JUL 1776 in: Philadelphia, PA Married: 28 SEP 1801 in: Trenton, NJ Died: 1834 in: Trenton, NJ rather than:
Born: 04 JUL 1776 in: Philadelphia, PA Married: 28 SEP 1801 in: Trenton, NJ Died: 1834 in: Trenton, NJ If you select this option, you should specify the width of the date fields. The date will be left-justified within that number of spaces before the place is appended. This option does not have an effect when you use proportional fonts, that is, when you clear the check next to Use non-proportional font on the Attributes tab. After you generate your family pages, review them to be sure the date fields are aligned as desired. This includes fields containing approximate dates like "about 04 JUL 1776" and "between 10 MAR 1880-15 JUN 1880." |
