This command generates web page files from your GEDCOM file. It uses the settings you made with the Options button.
By default Generate will generate all web pages. If you click the small down-arrow just to the right of the Generate button, you can generate an alternate set of web pages:
|All Web Pages||Generates all Family, Surname and Index pages.
The Bibliography, Repository and Multimedia Gallery pages are also generated if the respective options are enabled.
|All Web Pages; Skip Multimedia||
Generate all Family, Surname, Index and Multimedia Gallery pages. Do not create and copy multimedia files.
If you previously generated your web pages and you have not changed any multimedia files or settings, this command eliminates the processing delay in re-copying multimedia files.
|All Web Pages; Copy Multimedia||
Generate all Family, Surname, Index and Multimedia Gallery pages. Force all multimedia files to be re-processed.
In some cases GED-GEN does not re-process files it previously processed. If you want to force all multimedia files to be re-processed, choose this command. See the discussion on Generating Multimedia Files.
|Family Web Pages Only||Generates only all Family pages|
|Index Web Pages Only||Generates only the Surname and Index pages.
Note: Custom Feature Icons are not generated using this command.
|Sample Web Pages Only||Generates pages for only five (5) families. This is useful when you want to see the effect of changing options without generating all files.
The Bibliography and Repository pages are also generated if the respective options are enabled.
|Standalone Bibliography Only||Generates Bibliography and Repository pages that are independent of your
Surname, Index and Family pages.
An integrated bibliography is normally generated when you choose All Web Pages or Sample Web Pages Only. Choose this option for a bibliography that does not have links to your Surname and Index pages. This is useful if you want to include a bibliography elsewhere on your website.
This command always attempts to generate a bibliography, but will only generate a repository if the repository option is enabled.
= Feature is available only in the registered version.
GED-GEN will overwrite any existing files of the same name in the destination folder without prompting you. If you want to keep your existing family pages, copy them to another folder before generating your family pages a second time.
Also GED-GEN will not delete existing files that are no longer used in the destination folder. Residual files may occur if you specify a different GEDCOM file, or one having fewer families. You may wish to delete all appropriate files in the destination path before generating family pages a second time.
In the unregistered version, GED-GEN is limited to generating 500 families.
